Buster’s Guide to Beadnell
Buster knows every sandy corner of Beadnell. This is his guide for four-legged guests staying at Duneside House, so you and your dog can make the most of the beach on your doorstep.
Staying at Duneside House
One well-behaved dog is welcome by prior arrangement, at £40 per stay.
Dogs stay on the ground floor and off the beds and sofas.
The garden is fully enclosed, so it is safe for a sniff around.
A warm outdoor hose is ready for sandy paws after the beach.
Seaside House is pet free.
The beach
Beadnell Bay starts just beyond the dunes: two miles of sand where dogs are welcome all year round. At low tide, the rock pools at Ebb’s Nook are perfect for a sniff and a paddle.
At the south end of the bay, by the Long Nanny burn, the National Trust fences off part of the beach in spring and summer to protect nesting little terns. Dogs are not allowed inside the fence, and outside it they must be on a short lead (under 1 metre). Please follow the signs on the beach.
Walks
Low Newton by the Sea – 3½ miles each way along the beach, ending at The Ship Inn.
Seahouses – about 3 miles each way along the coast path.
Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle – 2½ miles there and back. The path crosses farmland, so keep dogs on a lead near sheep and cattle.
For distances and more routes, see our recommended walks.
Dog-friendly pubs
The Landing, Beadnell – a dog-friendly bar five minutes’ walk from the house, with curry night on Fridays.
The Ship Inn, Low Newton – well-behaved dogs are welcome. The perfect end to the beach walk.
The Joiners Arms, Newton-by-the-Sea – water bowls, and even dog beer.
The Bamburgh Castle Inn, Seahouses – dogs are welcome in the bar and garden.
Policies can change, so it is worth mentioning your dog when you book a table. For more places to eat, see where to eat and drink.
Handy to know
The National Trust shop in Seahouses sells dog treats and essentials.
Most coastal car parks have dog bins. Please bag it and bin it.
Keep dogs on a lead near livestock, nesting birds and cliff edges.
